NVIDIA Fermi GTX 470
Fermi is the latest NVIDIA GPU technology, which brought tercanggihnya. 512 SP and 3 billion transistors it is enough to make the Fermi card that should watch their competitors. Not to mention the ability to process instructions in a native C + +. Growing number of applications which take advantage of CUDA, and games that use PhysX feature also makes the Fermi increasingly attractiv
If viewed from the present specification Fermi cards on the market, there was little suspicion that the second card which is the product of a single GPU should be top GF100 was actually still have a brother who is more powerful again. If the Fermi originally designed and manufactured with 512 SP, why GTX480 “only” comes with a 480 SP and 448 SP GTX 470 with it? Looks like NVIDIA is still save the Fermi with 512 SP to face the “answer” to the second ATI card this GF100.
Meanwhile, the GPU speed is still around 600 and 700 MHz cards seem to still allow producers to play with overclocking at Fermi. If both the above facts, combined with lower power consumption compared Fermi Fermi now launched a rumored several months ago, seems to indicate that there will be a single GPU card Fermi tighter again, it could become a reality.
In these testing times, we used the Intel Core i7 980X or known by the name Gulftown. Processor with six cores, we turn off Hyperthreading function, Turbo, and EIST it from Gigabyte X58 motherboard BIOS UD3R. The aim is to obtain a faster processor performance, but did not cause a lot of variations on the test results. So, the GPU will become more “free” carry out their duties and show its performance.
It is noteworthy, that the drivers we use are new versions of 197.17 that could recognize GTX 470 and 480 only. So, should produce better results (in terms of performance and compatibility) can be obtained from the drivers that will be obtained with the cards that are sold into the market later.
CPU: Intel Core i7 980X (Gulftown)

HDD: 2x WDC 160GB (RAID 0 configuration)
M / B: Gigabyte X58 UD3R
PSU: CoolerMaster 1100 Watt Ultimate
Monitor: Fujitsu LCD (1920 × 1080 max resolution)
OS: Microsoft Windows 7
Performance “Fermi junior” looked better than the first test. This time, the GTX 470 be able to Beat the ATI HD5850. Nevertheless, the HD5870 still superior in testing this game that uses DirectX10
In a game RE5, setting DirectX 9, GTX 470 ATI HD5870 seemed to be trying to pursue. Although testing has not succeeded menggungguli this DX9, GTX 470 is able to rank-2. Different results obtained when we use the DirectX 10 settings. GTX 470 thinner than the HD5870 superior. Apparently, Fermi is able to work more optimally when using DirectX 10, compared to when using DirectX 9. At least, in this game.
Well, now let’s see Fermi capabilities when running DirectX 11 based games. DiRT2 are the first games that utilize DirectX 11. Although we must admit that DirectX 11 tesselation effects are not too obvious in this game (even tend to be less relevant), but at least this game has been implemented.
In this game, was able to beat the GTX 470 ATI HD5870. Apparently, NVIDIA is very serious in its ability to respond to the challenge of running the ATI DirectX 11 games. Nevertheless, the HD5870 is 6 months old this seemed to appear not far behind compared to GTX 470.
Heaven Unigine benchmark software 1.0 is the first benchmark for DirectX 11 that appear in public. This time, Unigine Heaven 2.0 already comes with a tesselation effects even more extreme. Therefore, we chose to test with 2.0 Unigine Heaven.
Again the GTX 470 is able to defeat both single GPU ATI top. Results obtained by the GTX 470 even far enough to leave competitors who have 6 months.
Metro Games 2033 arguably a very heavy gaming and graphics intensive. Latest games that utilize DirectX 11, and Physics will be able to dazzle your eyes, if you use the right tools (read: the most advanced graphics cards).
Apparently a single GPU is not enough to run the Metro in 2033 with maximum settings smoothly. Even with the reduced resolution of any setting, the frame rate obtained is still unsatisfactory.
GTX 470 successful HD5870 and HD5850 menggungguli easily on this game. We lowered the resolution and detail a little humbled, even the GTX 470 has almost reached a comfortable condition to be used to play the Metro in 2033
In the documentation, otherwise 470 GTX has a maximum power consumption of 215 Watt. Despite better than previous rumors that reached 300 Watt power consumption, but power consumption was still exceeded 470 GTX ATI second fastest single GPU. However, we are quite grateful when I saw that in testing, at least 470 GTX power consumption is still the same as the previous GTX285 which clearly has a lot of performance and features below.
Fermi idle condition was quite a relief to us. At least, Fermi was able to suppress power consumption when it is idle. So, this monster immediately turned into a docile when you’re browsing and doing light work that does not require GPU.
NVIDIA seems to successfully optimize the Fermi for DirectX 11 applications. Performance in DirectX 9 games and 10 is not too great, although it is good enough as a successor to GT200 series. The interesting thing is the GTX 470 alone was sufficient to melibas single ATI GPU terkencang currently in the application / DirectX 11 games. Of course, should keep in mind that ATI’s HD5870 is defeated, and a half years old, and ATI also plans to soon provide “answers” to the presence of Fermi.
Problem of power consumption does not seem to be too many complaints. At least, the GTX 470, the consumption of power is still equivalent to its predecessor (GTX 285), although not yet able to compete with ATI cards. This was apparently caused by the large number of transistors used in Fermi. Heat problem is a bit worrying. However, we believe that the Fermi-based card manufacturers will eventually find a better solution than a standard HSF Fermi.
The most important question to be answered is, “whether this Fermi worth buying?” There is some view that this Fermi less than perfect because of its performance on DirectX 9 and 10 can still be defeated by ATI. However, not enough investment on expensive card which is supposed to be done by referring to its performance in the future? (Read: performance DirectX 11). If the reference is DirectX 11, GTX 470 that we are testing alone was able to beat ATI HD 5870.
Let’s review the terms of its value (value). Based on the rumor that we received today, with the GTX 470 will be sold below the price range of USD 400 (about USD 380-390). While the GTX 480 will reach a price above USD 500. If this assumption is correct, GTX 470 will have a price under the ATI HD 5870, with DirectX 11 performance that is above the ATI HD 5870. If the exchange rate of USD to Rupiah good enough, it seems even the GTX 285 and GTX 275 would have even affected sales.
Prices are relatively affordable, DirectX 11 is a solid performance, support for all features games (including PhysX) will make the GTX 470 into the appropriate card for the groom by gamers. Meanwhile, the GTX 480 prices (according to gossip) above USD 500 will be a lover’s dream on the latest computer products and terkencang.
