Backup software in ubuntu, try FlyBack!!!

Flyback is really simple and quick backups software in ubuntu (linux). It allows users to create specific backs that can be run automagically (But you will be allowed to set manually too) and backup to networked drive, thum drive, usb drive or a directory within the file system in linux.

Install flyback

  • Open up a terminal window in ubuntu (depend in your variant) and issue the command type : sudo apt-get install python python-glade2 python-gnome2 python-sqlite python-gconf rsync
  • You can download the flyback with command : wget http://flyback.googlecode.com/files/flyback_0.4.0.tar.gz
  • unpack the tar file : tar xvzf flyback_0.4.0.tar gz

How using Flyback to backup data in ubuntu or another linux variant?

  • Start the software python flyback.py

If the software is entirely open, you will see a number of files and/or directories in linux are already marked for backup. But as ubuntu users, we have to actually add the files or folder from with the preferences windos. So cli”ck Edit” Menu and select Preferences. In this meny you have to configure or customize the backup location (it’s very important so please don’t miss it)ubuntu-backup

Then inlude your backup from the drop down and click the add button. It will add the backup directly in your ubuntu system.

After you have your directories set up, you can either click OK and then click the Backup button on the main window, or you can set up a scheduled backup from within the Backup Schedule tab

In order to set this up as an automatic backup click the “automatically” check box and then set up the time you want to run the backup. Finsish, you ubuntu/ another linux variant will get backup in this software.
